Kindle 2 Ebook Reader

Kindle 2 Ebook Reader

Right after I got my Kindle 2 Ebook Reader I read 4 full books. I absolutely LOVE IT.  Reading a book on Kindle 2 is -Very enjoyable.  Light weight and thin, Kindle 2 is convenient to carry around and hold in your hand.

I took the black lid off the box and the Kindle 2 was inside, nesting in a piece of white plastic.  I plugged in the Kindle 2 first thing and while it was charging, which takes around 3 hours or less. The Kindle 2 actually started up when I plugged it in.

After 10 minutes of non-use, the Kindle 2 will go into sleep mode.  And speaking of the Kindle 2’s sleep mode, when it’s in sleep mode, there are some very nice screen savers shown.  There is also a new Text-To-Speech feature that makes the Kindle 2 read every book, blog, or magazine and newspaper out loud to you.

Although the Kindle Dx Ebook Reader has a larger screen, Kindle 2’s 6-inch, 600 x 800 electronic paper display is more than big enough.  With its 16-level gray scale screen, the Kindle 2 packs one of the best EBook Reader displays we’ve seen, trumping the displays found on the original Kindle and on the Sony Ebook Reader PRS-700, both of which only handle 8 levels of gray scale.  For connectivity, the Kindle 2 uses Amazon’s Whispernet data service for downloading content.  At slightly more than a third of an inch thick, Kindle 2 is a lot thinner and a tad taller than the original.

The Kindle 2 is exactly what people want in an ebook reader, simple, sleek design.  The Kindle 2 is BUILT to be an ebook reader, and as such, does a great job.

Kindle 2 customers can read for four to five days on one charge with wireless on and for over two weeks with wireless turned off.  And because we know you can’t judge a book by its cover, Kindle 2 lets you download and read the beginning of books for free.

Pricing and availability  of the Kindle 2 will set you back US $299.  Although the “text to speech” is computer generated, I was impressed by its natural flow and intonation on the Kindle 2.  In addition to the memory,  the Kindle 2 also turns pages 20% faster than the original.

Kindle 2 Ebook Reader Features

Kindle 2 uses whispernet, Amazon’s optimized technology plus Sprint’s national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Kindle 2 is as easy to hold and use as a book. It was designed with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle’ 2s page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle 2. At 10.2 ounces, Kindle 2 is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you’ll find Kindle 2 fits perfectly in your hands.

Kindle 2 supports wall charging via the included Kindle power adapter, and charging from your computer via the included USB 2.0 cable. Kindle fully charges in approximately 4 hours.

Kindle 2 has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle 2 is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box–no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle 2’s 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly.

They expanded Kindle 2’s national coverage to include more cities and areas in all 50 states, enabling wireless downloads of books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs.

No monthly wireless bills, data plans, or commitments. Amazon pays for Kindle 2’s wireless connectivity so you won’t see a wireless bill. There is no wireless setup–you are ready to shop, purchase and read right out of the box.

A copy of every book you purchased from the Kindle Store is backed up online at Amazon.com in case you ever need to download it again. You can wirelessly re-download books for free any time. This allows you to make room for new titles on your Kindle, knowing that Amazon is storing your personal library of Kindle books. We even back up your last page read and annotations, so you’ll never lose those, either. Think of it as a bookshelf in your attic–even though you don’t see it, you know your books are there.
